Design for Manufacture of Contactless Payment Band
Background
JNDC was contracted to design a low cost wristband that could hold a contactless payment chip. The core of the design was security. Quite simply the wristband had to fit onto any users wrist, and not fall off or be easy to remove.
Development
JNDC developed several top level design concepts and presented the designs to the customer. From there, a single concept was shortlisted and initial prototype CAD was developed. Flexible plastic prototypes were produced for low volume user trials to double check the design securely held the contactless payment chip within the wristband.
Solution
JNDC’s design has now been adopted by major card issuers, and also been used as virtual ticketing for major internal events. The user is simply sent a wristband (as opposed to a conventional paper ticket) and on arrival at the event, all the user needs to do is “touch in” and they gain entry. The user can also purchase food, drinks etc using the Visa enabled functions on the contactless chip.
